Head Barista | Leadership Role
Dr Morse Bar & Eatery — Abbotsford
Dr Morse has been operating since 2014 and is firmly established as a neighbourhood institution and destination venue in Abbotsford.
We’re a high-volume, multi-faceted venue trading from morning coffee through to late-night hospitality, with café, bar and bistro running concurrently. Our coffee window — JNR Morse — has proudly poured ONA Coffee since day one, and maintaining that reputation for quality is non-negotiable.
We’re open to two types of candidates:
An experienced Head Barista or Supervisor ready to lead from day one, or
A highly skilled barista who has coffee completely dialled in and is ready to step into leadership, with support, mentoring and development provided.
This is not just a barista role — it’s a hands-on leadership position suited to someone who wants influence, responsibility and long-term growth.
What You’ll Be Responsible For
Coffee Leadership
Lead daily coffee operations across window and venue service
Maintain exceptional coffee quality and consistency
Dialling in, workflow optimisation and quality control
Training and developing baristas
Driving standards, efficiency and service flow
Team & Operations
Recruitment, onboarding and staff development
Performance management and team leadership
Ordering, stock control and stocktakes
Working within labour and COGS budgets
Maintaining systems and operational standards
Venue Contribution
Dr Morse operates across multiple service styles, so you’ll also:
Be present on the floor supporting service standards
Assist bar operations when required
Coordinate seamless handovers between day and night teams
Contribute to venue culture and leadership direction
What We’re Looking For
Minimum 3+ years specialty coffee experience
Previous supervisor, head barista or management experience
Strong latte art and high-volume workflow confidence
Excellent understanding of dialling in and quality control systems
A leader who sets standards through example
Commercial awareness and ability to work within budgets
Someone who genuinely enjoys developing people
Passion for hospitality — not just coffee
Bar experience preferred but not essential.
How Service Works
Coffee Window: 7am–3pm, 7 days
Venue trading: 11:30am–late (Tue–Sun)
Coffee services both the window and internal venue until 3pm
Strong collaboration required between daytime and evening operations
